Email overview

You can read your eMail via one of two ways:

  • Via the Roundcude WebMail interface available at  webmail.mgwmail.org.
  • Direct from your PC or mobile device using your favorite eMail client, providing it supports the POP3 or IMAP protocols as detailed below.

WebMail

One way to gain access to your eMail account, is via the web interface located at   webmail.mgwmail.org. On the front page you'll see a login box like the one below:

Enter your full eMail address in the "Username" box.

e.g. if your eMail address is "someperson@example.com"

enter that into the "Username" field, not just "someperson". Enter the password associated with your account into the "Password" field and then click on the "Login" button. You'll then be logged into the RoundCube WebMail system, from which you can read and send eMail.

The RoundCube system is easy to use, but if you have any questions please eMail support@mgw.org.uk

Email clients

The second way to access your eMail, is from your iPhone, iPad or other mobile device, or from your PC using Outlook, Thunderbird or similar client.

Incoming Mail

There are two methods by which you can collect your eMail POP3 or IMAP. The difference between POP3 and IMAP is that POP3 downloads your eMail and deletes it off the mgwmail.org servers, where as IMAP leaves it on the server and you accesss it remotely from one or more clients. What difference does this make to you, and which one should you use?

  • If you use more than one eMail client to access your eMail, e.g. WebMail and Outlook or Outlook and a mobile device (e.g. IPhone, then you should probably use IMAP so that you can maintain the same view of your eMail from both clients.
  • If you only ever use Outlook, then POP3 might be a good choice if you just want to quickly go online, collect your mail and read it later at your leasure.

When configuring your eMail client, you will need the following information. Please note that only the secure POP3 or IMAP protocols are supported, insecure versions of the protocols are not allowed (as this would permit your userid and password to pass across the internet in clear text for anyone to see).

POP3 Access

Server Port Protocol
mailbox.mgwmail.org 995 POP3S

IMAP Access

Server Port Protocol
mailbox.mgwmail.org 993 IMAPS

Outgoing Mail

Your mail client will need to know where to send mail for onward delivery to its destination, details of the server are shown below:

Server Port Protocol
postbox.mgwmail.org 587 MSA

Email is sent using the SMTP protocol. Again as with receiving mail, sending eMail must be performed in a secure manner and so your mail client must support SMTP AUTH and use a TLS connection.

Confused?

Don't worry if this all seems a bit confusing, there are some examples for a number of eMail clients under the "Email Client (setup)" menu, at the top of this page ().
