Setting up GMail (IMAP) client

Yes! you can use the Google GMail client installed on your Android device to access your email hosted on "mgwmail.org". The following details how to configure the GMail client, to send and receive email for your account. The download and installation of the GMail client is outside the scope of this help page, however it is very often installed by default on Android devices.

Configuration

Go into the "settings" menu on your Android device, and in the settings menu click on "Accounts" (at the top of the screen)

then click on the "Add account" option.

Scroll down the list of account types, and select the one named "Personal (IMAP), with the GMail logo in front of it.

Enter your email address into the "Enter your email address" field

then click on the "Manual setup" option (not the "Next >" option).

On the next screen, select the "Personal (IMAP)" option

and click "Next >"

In the next screen, enter your password in the "Password" box

then click "Next >".

In the next screen, leave

  • Username
  • Password

unchanged and set the following as indicated

  • Server - To "mailbox.mgwmail.org"
  • Port - To "993"
  • Security Type - To "SSL/TLS"

Then click "Next >", after which the details you've entered for the "Incoming Server Settings" will be validated and the message

briefly displayed. If any the settings are incorrect, you will be returned to the above menu and asked to correct your incorrect entries. Otherwise you'll move to the "Outgoing Server Settings" menu as shown below.

In the next screen, leave

  • Username
  • Password

unchanged and set the following as indicated

  • SMTP Server - To "postbox.mgwmail.org"
  • Port - To "587"
  • Security Type - To "STARTTLS"

Then click "Next >", after which the details you've entered for the "Outgoing Server Settings" will be validated and the message

briefly displayed. If any the settings are incorrect, you will be returned to the above menu and asked to correct your incorrect entries. Otherwise you'll move to the "Creating account" menu shown below.

There will be a brief pause while the GMail application creates your account, during which the following will be displayed

Next you will be given the chance to ammend the following options, which can be left as is or amended to suit your requriements

once you are happy with the settings, click "Next >" to move onto the next menu.


finally, click "Next >" to complete the GMail client setup, which will then return you to the following screen


which is the accounts acreen for the email account you just setup. You can then exit this screen as the account setup is now complete.

Your email messages will then begin to sync to your Android device, and if you then fireup the GMail client your email should be visible.
